Draft Writing and Critical Thinking Site

Feedback Page

A guiding assumption in this research is that online tools can be a useful resource to improving critical thinking and writing skills. That assumption is based in part on the proliferation of such tools—most colleges and universities have online writing centers as part of the resources available to students—on websites. It is also based on the common-sense proposition that information when effectively presented in any format can lead to learning.

The panoply of online tools from various sites include definitions of key concepts, examples of best practices and explanations of the same, and quizzes to assess mastery of foundational aspects of logic and writing. Some online writing labs (OWLs) also allow students to submit brief writing samples for feedback, and some allow students to schedule appointments—usually face-to-face—with writing instructors.

With the preceding in mind, I have sought to explore the effectiveness of online writing tools deployed in an adult education, learner-centered, distributive learning environment to assist adult learners in improving critical thinking and writing skills. The ELC students participating in this research have provided wonderful insight based on their own writing experiences, and their uses of technology to facilitate their individual and group learning. Indeed, their responses to the questions below provided some direction as to how I constructed this site. Now I would like to broaden the circle of responses to include all ELC students. This is a self-selecting process, so you can choose to do as much or as little of this as you want. Still, I want to stress that your participation is an investment in a resource that could assist you and your peers in making your experience as productive and joyful as possible.

Your responses to the questions below are intended to have the symbiotic purposes of 1) assisting you in becoming more conscious of your current content and skill levels as foundations to build bridges to the expectations of graduate education, and 2) to assist me in constructing a model that can be part of your resource base as you move forward in the program.

Another level of Feedback is requested on the current site, and you will see that several pages on the site contain links to Feedback forms. Your evaluation of each page would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
